Help me find the lost photo

Dear Friends,

My name is Silas J. Dumont. I need your help.

What may be the most important picture in the history of photography is out there somewhere, and I want you to help me find it. I have a small fragment (see the picture), but WHAT IT IS and WHERE IT IS are two mysteries to solve.

I’ll be searching with you, guiding you when I can and also learning from you. It’s a team effort; we’re in this together. But someone else is guiding me. I don’t know WHO or WHY. Another mystery to decipher.

Along the way we’ll encounter challenges, contests, lessons, riddles, and puzzles. And we’ll have some fun. And there will be rewards and prizes, if that helps. Our mission is to make this rare photo whole again. Are you with me on this quest?
